Somnanbulism

Do you think you have it?

Can affect up to 15% of children aged 5 to 12.

Sleepwalking is a state of semi-consciousness during which the sleeping person can sometimes sit up, move around and perform actions that he or she won’t remember once awake. This occurs during the deep slow wave sleep phase, in the first few hours after falling asleep. Around 2% of adults also sleepwalk, although the phenomenon tends to become rarer as we age:

  • Stress and anxiety;
  • Drug and alcohol use;
  • Too much physical activity before going to sleep;
  • Nocturnal breathing problems;
  • Restless legs syndrome;
  • Internal and external stimuli (noise, full bladder, fever, etc.).
