“I have always been called a loud snorer, but after the age of fifty, my snoring has come to the point where by wife has to sleep in a different room.

More recently, I have been experiencing acute symptoms like chronic fatigue (I wake up in the morning without feeling rested), the need to take afternoon naps, dip in alertness while driving and even problems with my memory.

After discussing it with my GP, I underwent heart, lung and sleep apnea tests in a hospital setting.

I was finally diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. To get the right treatment, I first saw a pulmonologist which revealed to me the bottleneck in Quebec’s healthcare system.

After six months of trying my patience on a waiting list, my doctor suggested that I seek out a private clinic, which is how I ended up at Clef du Sommeil.

Surprisingly I was given an appointment the following week (May 2010). I immediately felt very comfortable with the team at the clinic and decided to retake the apnea test in their on-site laboratory to validate the results of the first test.

This new test confirmed my diagnosis of severe apnea and I was able to quickly obtain the CPAP needed for my condition. The more accurate results of the second test allowed the team to set the CPAP according to my specific needs.

I received the device in early July. I have to admit that it took me a while to get used to the idea of ​​sleeping connected to a device. The first nights were a bit of a challenge; I couldn’t tolerate being connected to the machine for more than an hour or two. Getting used to it happened gradually over a period of 6 to 8 weeks before I felt completely at ease and could sleep comfortably.

Once I got used to it, I quickly felt the steady improvement in my condition. The feeling of chronic fatigue was gone after three or four months. I no longer need to take naps and I am no longer a danger behind the wheel. I’ve also seen improvements in my memory.

In a nutshell, I can attest to the quality of services at Clef du Sommeil and of the tangible results that I have seen in the improvement of my physical condition and my quality of life since using CPAP device.
