Spirometry

Spirometry

Spirometry is a simple breathing test used to help diagnose various chronic respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis and asthma.

A spirometry test can also be used to :

  • Check the current state of your lungs;
  • Help diagnose the cause of your shortness of breath;
  • Check the effectiveness of your pulmonary medication;
  • Monitor and control your respiratory health;
  • Follow the evolution of respiratory disease, if applicable.

Would you like to know why you should have a spirometry test? Here are just a few reasons why.

  • You are a smoker or ex-smoker;
  • You cough regularly;
  • You feel out of breath even when performing simple tasks;
  • You wheeze when you exert yourself or at night;
  • You often catch colds that last longer than the people around you.

It should be noted that, if the values obtained during the spirometry test are outside the norm, further investigation may be necessary.

Screening tests

In our four branches, we offer screening tests and a meeting with a certified respiratory therapist to determine your needs. Screening tests are performed in the clinic, and fees apply.

It is also possible to undergo a laboratory test to qualify your sleep and detect any disorders preventing you from getting the most out of your sleep. During this test, the person simply sleeps. Their sleep is analyzed and scrutinized using various measuring instruments and observation. To do this, the customer must spend a full night at our Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby branch (head office). It’s a highly instructive experience, as it provides a clear indication of the presence and nature of one or more sleep disorders.
